Where Are The Men in Silicon Valley?

Linx is featured in this month’s Town & Country annual Top 50 Bachelor’s issue. Ladies, grab a copy today to check out T & C’s list of the most desirable bachelors hitting the singles scene. These guys range from: Sergey Brin, Aaron Levie, and Uber’s Travis Kalanick to name a few. -1

Linx was asked to name some of my picks of where the techie bachelors go when not working and the toys they like to spend hard earned dollars on. In summary, ladies head to BJ’s in Cupertino on a Thursday for happy hour.

BJ’s is very casual and is a chain restaurant- think nachos, beer on tap, big screens, and a lot of guys! This is across the street from Apple’s campus and is swarming with techies in black turtlenecks with iPhone in hand and beer in another. Now please don’t mistake BJ’s for the next Rosewood Sand Hill Hotel swanky scene. It is anything but upscale! 😉

Ladies, dress casually yet chic and don’t forget a ponytail if your hair is long enough. As I told Emily Holt in T & C, guys love ponytails- especially the techies! Remember they tell me everything!

The 2014 Spring Fashion Report from the Runway

On Wednesday of this week, I attended a Spring Trend Presentation hosted by Neiman Marcus Stanford Center at the gorgeous Rosewood Sand Hill Hotel. It was an intimate setting with around 75 guests who enjoyed wine, culinary nibbles, mingling, followed by an informal presentation of spring trends for men and women.Neiman Marcus Spring Trend Presentation with Bentley SF and Rosweood Sand Hill to Benefit Project Glimmer

Before the fashion show commenced, there was a nice presentation about a local Bay Area non-profit called Project Glimmer. Project Glimmer was started by a Silicon Valley venture capitalist Sonja Perkins. Simply put, this non-profit pulls donations of gifts (think costume jewelry you’ve had in your closet forever or perfumes) and distributes them to underprivileged women and girls in the Bay Area. In total, Project Glimmer has donated more than 45,000 gifts and are always looking for people to get involved.

Sydney’s look is a great play on pink and mixing of high end designers with CUSP items. I think this Stella McCartney printed top is adorable and easily dressed up with this L’agence jacket and gold rhinestone necklace from CUSP. I really love the white trousers from the ROW which keeps it all fresh- who knew those Olsen twins would grow up to be such great designers, but they have and we’re so happy to be carrying their line. I also think the Lanvin bag adds so much sophistication and who can resist a sparkle peep toe- especially when it’s a Louboutin!

What am I wearing? I have a pair of light demin 7 boyfriend “Josefina” skinny jeans on that I cuffed paired with some YSL nude pumps, a Zoe and Sam silk blouse, pink with gold scarf, a Louis Vuitton Alma GM color Rose Angelique (with monogram ball accessory), and my topper jacket is vintage. I bought the coat a year ago in the desert (Palm Desert area) at a little vintage store. It has this fabulous brass buckle that secures the coat together and as you can tell it is very delicate. There is no brand to this one-of-a-kind piece. Someone made it by hand…my guess in the 50’s. Some ladies at the fashion show came up to me and said they were taking bets on “how much” it was and if it was Valentino. To their complete shock, I shared it cost less than a sushi dinner for two (sans booze). Ladies Night in Palo Alto | Pampering & Bubbly

On Thursday of this week, Linx co-hosted a fabulous evening at Drybar in Palo Alto. Around 40 friends of Linx received complimentary blowouts, endless glasses of bubbly, mini cupcakes, and lots of mingling with a fun group of professional ladies from all around the Peninsula. IMG_1005IMG_0139IMG_0086

For those who are unfamiliar with Drybar….it is a “blow dry bar” concept created around a very simple idea: No cuts. No color. Just blowouts for only $35.00. The perfect place to go pre-Linx date to get all glam- feeling feminine and gorgeous…and oh so date ready! IMG_0971IMG_1009IMG_0098IMG_0109

Upon arrival, guests at the Linx event (and in general) are greeted with a glass of wine or bubbly and an hour of pampering follows. There are set hair styles to choose from such as the “Mai Tai” or “Cosmo.” We had a great time and everyone loved getting so spoiled by the fabulous stylists.

T
he salon is super chic, modern, clean, and high-tech. Flat screens show girlie films (Mean Girls was playing in the background when I was getting my hair done), docking stations are at each chair should you need to charge your ipod or phone (gotta love that!), and the decor is in a soft calming palate of whites, yellows, and accents of black. IMG_0112IMG_0136IMG_0146IMG_0998IMG_0982

Lots of ladies from our party headed to the infamous Rosewood Sand Hill Hotel in Menlo Park afterwards for some testosterone action and surveying the wild Thursday night scene there (side note ever since Vanity Fair’s story on Linx was published the scene at the hotel is even more crazy and happening!) All in all a great night!IMG_0997IMG_0978IMG_0988IMG_0117IMG_0133IMG_0996IMG_0999

What Women Are Looking For in Silicon Valley- one perspective

A Linx blog reader submitted this information anonymously about her perspective on what she is looking as she is dating in Silicon Valley.

Last Thursday, I went to the Rosewood after work for happy hour

Here’s what I am looking for in rank order:

1) A sexually attractive man. I don’t know that I would call it ‘beauty’. From the neck up, he doesn’t have to look like a model. But he MUST take care of his body – hit the gym regularly and not have a belly and be toned/have some muscle. When I was at Rosewood, I was amazed by the number of men who I just did not find sexually attractive. They may have great jobs, but they don’t take care of themselves. Men say they need to be attracted to a woman. Well I am no different, I need to be attracted to men.

2) Humble. Also, as I looked around, I was struck by the number of men who appeared to me to be self involved and arrogant. This is from observing their body language, facial expressions, and interactions. The true gem is the man who has an education and a good career, yet at the same time is humble. He is grounded. That tells me he has good values, is introspective, and is authentic with himself and others.

3) Mature. I went to a beer party at my tech company last week and I was struck that the majority of men at the beer event seemed like and looked like boys. From how they dressed, to how they groomed themselves, to their social skills. I know some executives in my department who are MEN, but they don’t go to these beer events. Maybe that’s why.”

Readers, what are you looking for as you are dating in and out of Silicon Valley? Do you agree? What might trump your wish list? Would love for you to send me an email and I can post anonymously too.

A Glamourous Evening in the Silicon Valley

On Thursday evening, Linx hosted a very special event at the Rosewood Sandhill Hotel as part of a story I have been involved with for Vanity Fair magazine. The piece is on the Silicon Valley social scene.

Our featured song for this entry is Gus Gus VIP (Masters At Work Vocal mix) Our day began bright and early at Linx’s headquarters in Menlo Park preparing for my portrait photo for the piece. There is tons of prep that goes into this: hair, make-up, nails, wardrobe styling, fitness training, facials for clear skin, juicing week of, and oh goodness much more.

After my hair and make-up were done (they came to my office to do this), three guys walked into my office with countless camera equipment, lighting, etc. It was a pleasure getting to work with celebrity photographer, Justin Coit, who flew in from LA for our shoot. He has worked with Nicole Richie and Rachel Zoe.

The tech crew and Justin ended up shooting various portraits of me for 4 plus hours at my office. Let’s just say I have a new found respect for models. It is very hard work smiling, trying to maneuver your body for the right shot, and yes sucking it all in! P1040383

P1040422At around 5:00pm, we all rushed over to the hotel to quickly regroup and get set up (and me ready) for the party and a different look for the story. We had a gorgeous private villa on the property for the event where our florist had delivered gorgeous bouquets and the butler staff was ready for guests to arrive. My hair and make-up were waiting to quickly do a new hair look and evening make-up.  Attendees included a wonderful group of dear friends and clients looking absolutely stunning! I had requested everyone were cocktail attire and that they did! 4o guests arrived on time- everyone mingling, sipping on wine & champagne and just having a grand time.  Guests were told ahead that Justin would be shooting the event. A couple of friends I invited were not ok knowing they might grace a page in VF and most were thrilled and ready for the opportunity. Justin wanted everyone do to their own thing and just be themselves. No posing for this party. The bold floral arrangements, gorgeous contemporary furniture and art work, artisinal cheeses, bubbly popping right and left, and lots of flirting and conversation provided Justin creative shot after creative shot. P1040384P1040393At around 8:00pm, we left the villa for upstairs to continue the conversation and laughter. Some left with new contact in their pockets, other stumbled towards the nearest cab, a few stuck around till the wee hours, and Justin and his crew left for cajun food in Palo Alto.  We’re not entirely sure when the piece will come out, so stay tuned and perhaps see some of your friends in one of the fall/winter issues of VF.  Below is the awesome photography crew (Santiago, Justin, and Nick).
